“This means that it does not take a lot of close contact time for the virus to spread from one person to another-a few seconds instead of a few minutes,” said Ajay Sethi, Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Wisconsin.
Who is protected by this new mask guide?
Valensky said that the new mask policy is to protect some of the most vulnerable people in our society, such as those living in high-transmission areas, or those with vulnerable family members, such as children or people with health problems.
She also said that it is important for the United States to quickly control transmission because future variants may evade the vaccine’s effectiveness in preventing serious illness and death.
This does not necessarily make the public more receptive to these changes.
“Unfortunately, many people will see this as a trigger, especially those who are already critical of the CDC,” Sisi said.
Sethi said that although the public desperately wants to believe that the pandemic is over, it will not exist as long as health policies are ignored.
Valensky emphasized that the vaccination rate in the United States must increase rapidly. She said: “At this moment, the most important thing is related diseases, suffering and death, which could have been avoided by the country’s higher vaccination coverage.”
She also did not promise that the guidelines will not change again: “We will continue to pay close attention to science and update the guidelines when science changes again.”
