“Romeo and Juliet” needs more zombies

In the past three decades, Scott Edelman has published more than a dozen short stories that pay tribute to his literary heroes, including John Steinbeck, Edgar Allan Poe, and Ray Blah Debury.Edelman recently collected these stories in the book Tell me what you did before.

“I have enough stories, I think, it became a good collection to commemorate all the people who inspired me,” Edelman said in episode 476 Geek Galaxy Guide podcast. “I am very happy to be able to say thank you to the people who helped shape me before.”

The longest story in the book is “The Plague in Your House”, which is a zombie story written in iambic pentameter. “I am driving home World Terror Conference In Nashville, I suddenly thought of the opening remarks, and I thought,’Yes, Night of the Living Dead and Romeo and Juliet, The zombie child and the human child eventually fell in love,” Edelman said. “It’s fun to write. “

Unfortunately, a 50-page screenplay about zombies is difficult for editors to sell. “Someone was writing an anthology of zombies, and I thought,’Oh, this is absolutely perfect,’ and I sent it in and the response was,’I don’t like Shakespeare,'” Edelman said. “So it has nothing to do with the story, or whether I wrote it well, or whether there is poetry in the language. It’s just,’We don’t like Shakespeare.'”

Edelman eventually released this story as his first and only self-published work. “One year I made it into a Halloween card, sent it to all my friends, and published it based on it Best New Horror Mammoth Book, And based on the publication, it was finally nominated for the Bram Stoker Prize,” Edelman said. “The way the story is published and recognized is weird, so I always tell people,’Don’t worry about finding the right one. It will take a while for the audience. ‘”

Scott Edelman’s story about his “Fifth Dimension”:

“It assumes that I am writing to Fuzzy zone Magazine-A guide to episodes was being published at the time Fringe area——When I wrote, I said,’Oh, you missed this episode, that episode, and this wonderful episode,’ the editor said,’Those are not real episodes. I think you are making up things. There was a back and forth, and finally my TV was receiving stories from the fifth dimension, that Rod Serlin Still producing various other great episodes somewhere. The great thing about this story is that the editor Ted Klein had to be managed by Rod Serling’s widow, Carol Serling-because once you add something similar to the magazine, they are getting permission from Serling Manor and you have to make sure his widow I’m satisfied and honored about it-in fact, Carol Serlin said,’Oh, no, I like this story. It treats Rod Serling in such a wonderful way and makes me very happy. “

Scott Edelman Raymond Carver:

“He wrote a lot of science fiction stories in the beginning. When I edited Science Fiction Age Magazine, I recommend Barry Malzberg ‘Hey, are you aware of this? Why don’t you write a science fiction story as if it were written by Raymond Carver? “, he did it and published in Science Fiction Age long, long ago. But I will kill a story that really reads a science fiction story written by Raymond Carver. We don’t know why he no longer cares about science fiction. His first wife said, “Oh, in the end he is no longer interested in writing little green monsters.” But can’t he sell them, and then say,’Oh, this is stupid’?Or once he enters John GardnerHis writing class, does he think it is under him? We really don’t know what his relationship is, but it would be great if we could go back and find some of them. “

Scott Edelman on editing Science Fiction Age:

“My wife has been looking for a job. She is Washington post, There is an ad, under “Editor”, “Look for a part-time editor to edit a science fiction magazine.” I said, “Wow, I can do it.” I have edited other magazines in the past-my career started as an editor of Marvel Comics. What I wrote to them is probably the most annoying letter anyone writes to find a job, because I think I have a certain position in the field of doing high-quality things-there are many not-so-good science fiction magazines, or science abuse this Fiction magazines in the field, abuse the writers and artists they use. I basically said,’The question is not whether you will hire me, the question is whether I am willing to edit this magazine for you. This must have left a deep impression on them. “

Scott Edelman on his podcast Eat the best:

“I used to be called Anthony Bourdain Science fiction, because when I go to the science fiction conference, I will go into the town where the conference is located, because I don’t want to waste any time eating at the hotel, I will abscond with other guests and go to all these great restaurants in town. When I was a guest on the podcast, I suddenly realized,’Wait, you mean workers can own the means of production? I can make a podcast and put it there, will Apple distribute it to everyone? I thought,’What should be my niche? Because I don’t want to be another podcast. So I said,’I will go out to eat with people. I will record those meals. You come with me to eavesdrop on my conversations with different people. And I have been doing this for more than five years. “
